GDP XD Plus, A Handheld Retro Game Machine

GDP XD Plus, A Handheld Retro Game Machine

Searching around, it turns out the GPD XD Plus is a great overall Handheld Retro Game Machine. Alternatively you can get a controller and use your phone but after having done that myself, it’s kind of a pain. Another alternative of course is to just take a Nintendo Switch but that’s only if you want to spend $300 and are only into Nintendo. You can also make your own. This channel “wermy” has a bunch of videos where you can create your own retro machines. But back to the main topic

This is the GPD XD Plus – (Official Site)

The only down side to it is the price, about $240. Otherwise, you can find it on Amazon here.

I don’t have this, let me make that clear but it sounds pretty good.

Read a really detailed post about it here.

A youtube user had this to say about it:

…the XD+ is capable of standalone emulating heavy PSP (GoW) and Gamecube (Wind Waker) games at near-full to full speed; Linus simply didn’t bother to choose and configure the emulators properly. In fact, SNES, N64, PSX, NDS, DC and some PSP already worked full speed (no gamepad lag) on the original XD with skelton’s Legacy ROM, which also easily got rid of the Metro launcher and bloatware. As their name rightly implies, the GPD (XD/Win) are portable gaming devices that can do lots on their own and pretty much anything through streaming; say, I even used to play BOTW on the original XD at college Campus, remotely streaming CEMU from my home with Splashtop. TL;DR: They’re economic, powerful and very versatile portable devices, if you only care to learn how to use them.
  • How else I use the original GPD XD:

  • Email: Outlook and Gmail apps; work perfectly.

  • Social networks: Facebook, Messenger, Instagram apps; work perfectly.

  • Web browsing: Firefox app; very fast and multitab, no Youtube lag or stutter (auto-quality; seems 720p).

  • Movies & music: VLC app; works correctly on its own, sometimes stutters when HDMI outputting.

  • Remote file access: Dropbox (works correctly) & Splashtop (no longer admitts fullscreen mode gaming).

  • Studying: PDF Acrobat reader app; can read and highlight text perfectly for hours (got me through my Master).

  • Lecturing: output to projector through HDMI, specially PDF or PPT slideshows.

I also like this little computer by the same company, but it’s $750. I don’t have it either but it would be great for my work.

Are there other Handhold Retro Machines out there that are good or better? Let me know in the comments.

I bought a Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer

I bought a Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer

I bought my first stereo in about 1992. I can’t even remember what brand it was. I got two Cerwin Vega DX5 Speakers with 12″ subwoofers in them. The stereo also lasted a good 7-9 years. Pioneer it might have been. Anyway, these speakers were the best. At college I was on the 4th floor and when I got mad, I’d pump the bass and you’d hear it down on the first floor. I’m sure if you tried that today, the cops would show up. hah. Anyway, I’ve hung on to these speakers and 1998/1999 I bought some rear and center speakers. But the one thing I was missing this whole time was a good Subwoofer.

As the years went on, I opened up the speakers and both had been blown. A few years back, I fixed the Subs using youtube videos, which as far as I can tell, repaired them to full.

I’ve always wanted a Subwoofer but I felt like those two 12″ woofers in the stereo probably got the job done but I never quite had the bass I used to have with the first stereo.

When I switched to newer stereos, which were both ONKYO, I never quite got the bass sound again I was looking for. I thought that was because there was something wrong with my speakers but instead it was the horrible stereos I was picking. The ONKYO RC-270 literally caught on FIRE!!!! I really regret not posting a youtube video on that. Maybe that video would have catapulted me to youtube success. Oh well. I was not thinking in those terms back then. When you pushed the power button, it caught on fire. I should have sued them too, as look at how dangerous that is and I could have demonstrated it. I’m so dumb… two wasted opportunities haha.

Anyway, this last week I bought a Yamaha TSR-5810 7.2-Channel Network Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 4K Ultra HD Streaming

I waited like 2 years on Ebay and someone put it on there for about $100 off strangely when they’re normally going for $220 or so or $450 new on Amazon. So I really scored. When I turned it on, I was blown away by how much better it sounded than my Onkyo. So I guess Onkyo might suck? Last stereo I buy from them. I don’t know who led me to buy from them each time but that was a bad direction for sure.

Anyway, for say 5 years I’ve had a Polk subwoofer on my wishlist. Typically it’s $299 or so. I just never could spend that much on something that was somewhat optional. But with this new stereo, I could tell it would really work. I went onto Amazon and found a 10″ one for only $87! I could stomach that much more than $250-299. It was also listed as “Amazon’s Choice” and it had a lot of reviews. So.  Luckily my dad sent me an Amazon gift certificate as a Christmas present.

It finally arrived and it was WAY bigger than I was expecting. The pictures look small. It’s almost the size of a waist high fridge I have next to my computer desk. It’s super heavy too.

When I plugged it in, it didn’t do much but when I found the right source such as a Youtube video, it was insane. It’s shaking the walls. I can’t imagine what the 12″ subwoofer is like. It has a dial in the back that you can turn to max or turn to nearly off. That’s very handy because at night time, you need to turn it down because of people sleeping. It’s also a bit too much bass when you put it to max but it’s super fun/funny when you do. It shakes the couch. haha. So for $87, it’s totally worth it. I highly recommend. I spent $3 on a warranty too.

The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo

The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo

Here’s a show that I’ve been looking for since it went off the air. It was a companion show to B.J. and the Bear (name didn’t age well) about a trucker and his monkey which ran for three seasons. Unfortunately I can’t ever find either show to watch again. I’m also looking for Silver Spoons (which only has Season 1 of 5). Let me know if you ever see these out there.

The show was done by Glen A. Larson whose responsible for just about all of the greatest shows including:

  • Magnum P.I.
  • Caprica
  • Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009)
  • Buck Rogers (1979-1981)
  • Battlestar Galatica (1978-1979)
  • The Fall Guy (never watched it)
  • Quincy M.E. (early doctor show, I was never into it)
  • Mcloud (MST3000 often references it)

I just clicked on it when I saw POST-APOCALYPTIC in the description along with Sandra Bullock (Demolition Man/Speed). I am a huge fan of those types of movies. I read headlines about how scary it was. I admit it was a little scary due in part to me being at home alone with the cats in the dark at 12 a.m. When you can’t see what’s coming at you, sometimes that’s what is most scary. After watching the movie (NO SPOILER) I feel like the movie was pretty dumb overall, but entertaining. If everyone is watching it, it’s at least watching to discuss in popular culture. As far as Apocalypse movies, though, there’s at least 20+ better ones out there.

The Sandra Bullock-starring thriller has become quite popular on Netflix, becoming the streaming service’s most-watch film over the course of seven days. Since its premiere on Dec. 21, the original drama has been viewed by over 45 million accounts, the company reports. [Visit Website]

Welcome to this new site! It’s not yet ready but we have to go with it as is just to make sure as many visitors make it’s way over as possible. After 20 years, I’m starting a new site with a similar url. 🙂 I think I may drop Politics, I’m not sure there’s much interest there.
