My son said it’s because it’s not free-to-play. This is the real Blizzard people’s (the real Blizzard people who left the company vs. the new employees that are just tagged as Blizzard) first game after Blizzard, so… doesn’t look like it’s working out that well. Maybe it will pick up in time.
My opinion is that it’s way better than Call of Duty Black Ops 6. It’s a fun game but it really is confusing to play at first. Your ship takes off, then you’re like what am I even supposed to do? You have to leave the ship, get upgrades for the ship at nearby dungeons, then eventually you start to run into enemy player ships and fight them. It’s even confusing how to equip your ship. You use an item to boost away from the ship, go to the dungeon, “clear” the dungeon, then take the loot back to the ship. You hit a button to teleport back to the ship with the item which isn’t obvious when you first start playing. Someone has to teach you all these things.
The entire game depends on someone flying the ship well which is more common in PRE-MADE groups. So if you’re a solo player, this one is a hard game to pick up. I got lucky and had at least 50% of games having a good pilot. You get idiots that just ram the ship into the enemy ship and kill it and all your time was wasted. Then if you’re with a random group, you’re going to get rolled by a premade group I’m sure.
The aspect of having to slowly grind the dungeons to equip your ship is pretty boring. It’s just the ship vs. ship combat that is exciting. So it’s a mix of two things going on. The worst is when you spend like 30 mins gearing up your ship and your idiot pilot just rams you into the enemy ship and kills it haha. So all you’re gaining is leveling up and unlocking more things but you’re in a losing game. It’s a bit like Sea of Thieves where you have to have a good group to succeed. That relies on getting friends on at the same time or even having friends which is a struggle for some.
No idea how any of the other games did.
I was looking forward to what they put out and this game looks kind of cool but games where you have to have a pre-made group in order to really enjoy them are just not big winners for me. Those games are fun when you do have that crew but most of us don’t have a crew on demand when we get older. Too bad seeing it not do well. Even if I don’t have the time for this game doesn’t mean I didn’t want to see it do well.
Sunderfolk on the other hand just didn’t look good to me. It might be fun but it didn’t really look like it.
