You can totally do it.
We spent $23 on this steak and the aholes doused it with salt so bad, you could only taste salt. It was inedible. So what I did was grab a ziplock, put the meat in there. Froze it. Then returned it to the line. I did forget my receipt though but they found it.
Some say you don’t even have to bring the meat back to return it. But they didn’t say to do that when I went.
